Product Information
Aptamil® Feed Thickener is a thickening agent and may be mixed with breast milk or infant formula to assist in the management of infant regurgitation or mild reflux. IMPORTANT NOTICE: To be used ONLY in combination with breast milk or infant formula, NOT as a sole source of nutrition. Available in pharmacy without a script in Australia. Available on prescription in New Zealand, FULLY PHARMAC FUNDED.
Features
Aptamil® Feed Thickener is a tasteless and odourless thickening agent which may be mixed with breast milk or infant formula to assist in the management of problematic regurgitation. Aptamil® Feed Thickener maintains thickness of feed through the stomach due to the presence of carob bean gum which resists digestion in the mouth. This helps reduce regurgitation frequency in infants.1
Aptamil® Feed Thickener instantly thickens:
- Breast milk.
- Infant formula.
If a thickened infant formula is required, Aptamil® Gold+ Reflux premium thickened infant formula (0–12 months) can be considered.
Should Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease be suspected full medical investigation is recommended.
Contraindications for use
Not suitable for premature infants.
Direction of Use
1. Wash hands before preparing the feed. Clean and then sterilise all utensils by boiling for 5 minutes or using an approved steriliser.
2. A fast flow or variable flow teat is recommended with thickened feeds, unless otherwise advised. Prepare each bottle separately. Use expressed breast milk, or prepare infant formula as directed.
3. Use only the enclosed scoop. Always use a dry scoop. fill the scoop lightly and level off using the built-in leveller. Avoid compacting the powder.
4. Add 1 level scoop powder(or 3 metric teaspoons) for each 200ml breast milk or infnat formula. Cap the bottle, then shake vigorously to dissolve the powder. The dosage of Aptamil Feed Thickener can be adjusted to suit smaller feeding volumes. For 50 ml, use 1/4 of scoop. For 100 ml, use 1/2 of a scoop. For 150 ml, use 3/4 of scoop. 5. Test temperature on wrist before feeding. Feed immediately and discard unfinished feed. Aptamil Feed Thickener should be added to your baby's feed just before feeding, since thickened feeds will continue to thicken over time.

Storage
- Store in a cool dry place.
- Use by the date on container bottom.
- After opening, keep container airtight and use contents within four weeks.
- Product is packed by weight, not volume.
- Some settling of the powder may occur during transportation and distribution.
