Single parent life: Navigating co-parenting and self-care tips

Separation and divorce can be challenging but when life takes an unexpected turn it can also be a great opportunity to start fresh and embrace the change. 

Separated parents may often experience a range of emotions from frustration and loneliness to the stress of running a household and juggling work and caregiving responsibilities. However, single life can be an opportunity for growth, freedom and happiness.

Live your best life as a single parent

Embrace all the emotions: It’s okay to feel a whirlwind of emotions, especially if your newfound single status is still quite fresh. Allow yourself to acknowledge and process all of the feelings and accept that some days will be better than others. 

Lean on your support network: Don’t be afraid to reach out to family members and friends when you need to talk, vent or simply spend time with someone.

Set a co-parenting plan in place: Co-parenting will require open and respectful communication, and both should avoid speaking negatively about the other parent around their child.

Stick to a daily routine: Establishing a consistent daily routine will provide stability and predictability for both you and your child. This can help reduce stress and make life more manageable.
