Make the most of this new chapter and create a beautiful life for you and your little one.

Separation and divorce can be challenging but when life takes an unexpected turn it can also be a great opportunity to start fresh and embrace the change.

Separated parents may often experience a range of emotions from frustration and loneliness to the stress of running a household and juggling work and caregiving responsibilities. However, single life can be an opportunity for growth, freedom and happiness.

For singles trying to successfully navigate a co-parenting relationship, it’s important for both parents to prioritise their child’s emotional health and wellbeing above any of their own relationship dramas.

From co-parenting know-how to self-care advice, the following tips will help you to embrace your single parent life.

Live your best life as a single parent

Embrace all the emotions: It’s okay to feel a whirlwind of emotions, especially if your newfound single status is still quite fresh. Allow yourself to acknowledge and process all of the feelings and accept that some days will be better than others.

Lean on your support network: Don’t be afraid to reach out to family members and friends when you need to talk, vent or simply spend time with someone.

If you’re finding it difficult to cope with the emotional toll of your separation, consider reaching out to a therapist or counsellor.

Set a co-parenting plan in place: Co-parenting will require open and respectful communication, and both should avoid speaking negatively about the other parent around their child.

Stick to a daily routine: Establishing a consistent daily routine will provide stability and predictability for both you and your child. This can help reduce stress and make life more manageable.

Both co-parents should prioritise the child’s health and wellbeing and this includes providing proper nutrition to support their growth and development.

If parents are worried the toddler’s diet is lacking in nutrients, a toddler milk drink may be appropriate. Aptamil Gold+ Toddler provides nutrition for trusted immune system support with 16 essential vitamins and minerals, when consumed as directed as part of a healthy varied diet.

Aptamil Gold+ Toddler understands not all children are the same and every family and every feeding journey is unique.

Try to follow a similar bedtime routine too. For toddlers, this may include a toddler milk drink, followed by a bedtime story and cuddle.

Prioritise self-care: Make time for yourself regularly to do something for you, even if it’s just 15 minutes a day to read a book, take a long bath, or go for a walk. Taking care of yourself is not selfish, rather it’s essential for your wellbeing and to help you care for your children. Be sure to ask friends or family for help with childcare when you need a longer break. You deserve it.

Be healthy and happy: Eat well and take care of your physical health as it directly impacts your emotional and mental wellbeing. Exercise is an excellent way to boost your mood and reduce stress.

Bond with your child: Being a single parent gives you the opportunity to create special one-on-one memories with your child. Plan fun activities and enjoy spending time together and creating some magic memories.

Remember to always seek health advice from a healthcare professional.

Every feeding journey is unique

Not every parent can produce breast milk. No matter what choice you make, we will support your unique feeding journey.

We at Nutricia believe in providing the best nutrition for babies, which is why we recognise breast milk is uniquely superior for babies as it provides many benefits. It is important that mums have a healthy diet to support breastfeeding. A decision not to breastfeed, or partial bottle feed, may reduce breast milk supply making it difficult to reverse. The cost and social implications of using feeding methods should be considered. Always seek professional advice about feeding your baby. Ensure formula is used as directed as improper use can affect baby’s health.

REMEMBER: The information on this page is general only. If you have any concerns about your baby’s poo or questions about constipation or any other health concerns, please speak to a healthcare professional, like a Pharmacist, GP or Maternal Child Health Nurse.
