An ultrasound can accurately determine the date of conception, as ultrasound measurements are taken of the gestational sack and the crown to rump length of the foetus. To determine the conception date without an ultrasound, a woman needs to work out the day her last period began, add her average cycle length in days to that date, and then subtract 14 days.
